Mac App Store Speedup →
If the MAS is as slow as a snail in 80 mi head wind for you, maybe you wanna try out this little tip from someone that obviously could figure out something Apple is not able to do in the first place. That brings me to my next point: use this info at your own risk as I can’t tell you if there are any side effects related to this modification. What makes this even worse: it is a global...

My Secret Stack Project
Just to let you guys know, I am working on a super secret Stack project that nobody has done before and which moves Stacks and RapidWeaver to a new level. I don’t wanna say more right now, but it’s actually something I already did successfully during the time I was using NetObjects Fusion as a web development environment on Windows. Fusion had components similar to RapidWeaver plugins,...

What's the best OSX editor out there?
No, it’s not Coda and it’s not Espresso, not BBEdit or Smultron and of course not Emacs. After testing those editor over time more or less extensive, it’s TextMate, the most flexible and versatile text editor from Macro Mates.

Update: Tumblr Stack 2.6
Two releases on the same day :) Just fixed an issue one of the stack users reported a few minutes ago with MP4 videos not playing correctly due to the fact that the tumblr specific player code was not included. It is now :) As usual, the lastest and greatest stack version can be found here …

Update: Tumblr Stack 2.5
Here is a quick one right before the start of the new week :) This is a minor bug fix that focuses on the way photo posts are rendered in the blog. So far the tumblr Stack didn’t consider a click-through url if it was present. This release changes this behavior: when there is a link-through url available, clicking on the photo opens the respective url, if not, a larger version of the photo...

Apple Testing A5-Powered MacBook Air →
konistehrad: I wrote on this topic back in November, and I’m pretty damn excited to hear it might be shaping up. The AIR already gets pretty good battery life at five and eight hours for the 11” and 13” models respectively, but the prospect of the system drawing as little as 5 watts (as opposed to 10 or 17 for just the CPU) has the potential to push battery life well past 12 hours. Now that...

getaround.com: Disruptive Or Not?
UPDATE: the picture from autoblog.com shows that the folks from getaround.com are actually using the OBD connector to interface with the vehicle. And to be clear, there is no way to engage/disengage the immobilizer this way. This years TechCrunch Disrupt saw getaround.com as the big winner. The getaround folks gave a very good presentation (3rd video from the top) on how they wanna solve the...

Update: Tumblr Stack 2.4
I just release a new version of the tumblr Stack. This release fixes a couple of minor issues that have been present since day one:  video posts will no longer show 3 videos instead of one using the tweet button the user now has to actually enter a tweet for posts of type quote, photo, video and audio the stack is no longer using a default value for the tag filter which caused a lot of empty...

Is Flickr no longer able to innovate? →
timoni: Is this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/friends/ (I am a designer at Flickr. This post is largely taken from a proposed redesign I sent out last year.) The webs future UI ...
What you just saw is a Qwiki about Qwiki, a new online service. With the release of the alpha version of Qwiki, I guess we are seeing not just a cool online encyclopedia service, what Qwiki really brings to the table is a new UI for many forthcoming services, a UI we’ve seen so far only in science fiction movies. Right now Qwiki is tapping into sources like Wikipedia to answer search...

It's not going to stop working ...
Apple next month will reportedly begin manufacturing the first updates to its rejuvenated MacBook Air line as the company looks to maintain the impressive sales momentum generated by the ultra-thin notebooks and limit the market opportunity for would-be competitors hoping to wedge their foot in the door. That’s how life goes. You buy a brand new Apple device and you know by the time you buy...

Is that ok with you? Nope!
With all the posts going around about Apple’s weird practice to track location data of their iPhone/iPad users, this one part of the Steve Jobs D8 interview came to my mind, where he specifically refers to location data usage in the context of how Apple handles privacy of data. I am just wondering if he knew about that specific feature of his products at the time …

Let it slide, Steve
Here is the story: Apple sues Samsung over the Galaxy Phone and Pad and the Internet is going nuts about Apples stance to do so. How could a company like Apple actually complain about this? To foster that statement a recent blog post even shows how Apple or better  Jonathan “Jony” Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design has been “inspired” by Dieter...

Let's face it, Cisco is just ahead of the market →
I know it’s kind of weird that Cisco is about to kill a still flourishing business that was once an example of an innovative product, but as sad it may seem when looking at it right now, Flip is doomed to fail in a market that is more and more dominated by smart phones that do the same but just better. In the same way you can expect Apple to discontinue its iPod Classic, as there is no...

43 days later ...
It’s been 43 days since I got my new Air and I guess it’s time for a first resumé of what the Air is like. Well I could easily sum it all up by saying that I am still stunned by the Air, but let me elaborate on that a bit. It’s kind of funny, but there seems to be a common belief that the MacBook Air is not a full fledged computer resp. laptop. Yea, the Air is thin and light and...
